This is a nice little hack that I found. It enables you to make GMail your default email program on your PC. It also replaces the email shortcut in your WinXP Start Menu to point at your GMail account along with the Gmail icon.
Note: This hack involves editing your Windows registry which could cause serious problems if your not sure of what you are doing. To be on the safe side you should create a System Restore point before attempting.
1. Save this gmail icon to the C:WINDOWS folder on your compter --- >>
gmail.ico2. Right Click on this link named "
gmaildefault.reg" and save the link to your desktop.
3. Go to your desktop and double click and add "gmaildefault.reg" to the registry.
4. Right click on empty space in the taskbar and click on properties.
5. Click on the "Start Menu" tab and next to "Start Menu" (not classic menu) click on "Customize".
6. Go down to the bottom of the "General" tab and click the dropdown for "E-mail".
7. Click on Google Gmail, next click "OK" and "Apply" the changes.
